The weather has continued to be cold and we have discovered ice around the nursery garden. Together we learnt what ice is and how it can be made. We then explored how to free things from ice using hammers, warm water and our own finger warmth. The children enjoyed rescuing the animals that were stuck in the ice. Towards the end of the week we revisited our learning about Arctic animals and began to make our own story book called “Walrus, Walrus, what do you see?” based on the book “Brown Bear, Brown Bear what do you see?”. The children made marks and drew different animals to create our own book.
Over the last few weeks we have been learning how numbers can be represented in many ways including; numicon, number blocks, numerals, fingers and dot patterns. In groups we learnt how to play the game bingo. The children each had their own bingo board with different representations of a number on and when the adult called out a number the children had to see if they had that representation on their board. Once the children had all the representations on their board they shouted out “BINGO” this was lots of fun.
