Reception News WB 14.11.22

This week we have immersed ourselves in the world of bears. We explored what they look like, what they use different parts of their bodies for e.g. web feet for swimming, sharp claws to catch fish, water repellent fur to keep warm and dry, where they live and what they eat.

We listened to the story ‘Were going on a bear hunt’ then wrote a list of the things we would take in our backpacks if we were going on a bear hunt. Outside we used magnifying glasses and binoculars to explore our outdoor area as we imagined we were looking for bears. We also spent much of our time outside this week weeding around our vegetable beds and laying out new wood chip paths. It was a huge team effort as we used our gross motor skills to fill wheelbarrows full of woodchip and transfer it to the planting area. We look forward to inviting parent helpers in to begin new growing projects in the spring term.

In maths this week we enjoyed singing ‘head, shoulders, knees and toes’ as we explored the concept of ‘parts’ and ‘whole’. E.g. My arm is a part of me and whole of me is Ben. This concept will be developed further next week as the children learn that 3 (whole) can be composed of 1 and 2 (parts).
