Week 1 – 28.2.22-4.3.22

Year 1 News – Spring Term 2 – Week 2

This week the children went on a trip to Whipsnade zoo. We had a great time and were lucky to see so many of the animals, including the lions and giraffes which were a big hit. The children also took part in a Fur, Feathers and Feet workshop, where they had the challenge of figuring out which animals belonged to the groups birds, mammals and reptiles. They also got to meet and stroke Sausage the corn snake.  The next day the children wrote their own recount of the trip, writing what their favorite parts were and describing the animals using adjectives.

In maths this week we have looked at place value. The children worked in groups to figure out how many tens and ones each number had. It was great to see so many Collaborative Cockatoos, with the children discussing the answers with their group.

On Friday we celebrated World Book Day. It was fantastic to have our morning assembly with so many different characters, from Mary Poppins to The Hungry Caterpillar and so many more fantastic costumes.  We have enjoyed hearing stories from our Masked Readers this week and the children have made some great guesses as to who each reader is behind the mask.  We’re looking forward to the reveal on Monday.
