Nursery Latest New – Autumn 2 Week 2

This week we have been focusing on the Hindu and Sikh festival of Diwali. We started the week looking at fireworks and used our cutting, ripping and gluing skills to make our own firework rockets. We listened to the story of Rama and Sita and learned how good triumphs over evil. We looked at how Diwali is celebrated from the new clothes they wear, the sweets they cook and their firework displays. We looked at Rangoli and Mehndi patterns, and had a go at making our own.

In maths we looked more at repeating patterns and began to make our own. Outside we used natural materials to copy patterns and inside we looked at making patterns with our bodies. We practised our listening skills in lots of different activities. In one we had to close our eyes and listen to the musical instrument, recognise what it was and then tell Miss Beaumont. With Mrs Tait we needed to recognise if we had the instrument making the same sound as Mrs Tait’s instrument.

We ended the week learning about Remembrance Day and what it symbolises. We took part in some poppy making activities.
