Nursery Latest New Autumn 2 – Week 6

This week began with the nursery children excited to see how Malvern Way has changed into a Christmas wonderland, with lots of children excited to talk about our Christmas Fayre the day before. We looked at our first Christmas story The Jolly Christmas Postman, learning all about how our letters get from the post box to someone’s letter box. We listened carefully to see where the postman had been so we could help Miss Beaumont to draw a story map of all the characters visited.

We started to look at the meaning of Christmas through the Nativity story. We looked at all the different people who played a part, and then used our small world tray to act out those different parts.

In maths we looked at new vocabulary related to weight. We looked at things that are heavy and things that are light, learning if the scales tipped down that item was the heaviest. Mrs Rathod challenged us by using an object that was big but light so we could understand that not all big things are going to be heavier and sometimes small things can be the heaviest.

We have been up in the hall practising our Christmas performance and have been trying really hard to sing our songs, join in with the actions and smile. We have been making some decorations out of clay this week and have been learning how to roll out the clay, tear away the excess clay from the cutter and then lift the cutter up.

RSPB’s Great British Birdwatch

Today the Eco warriors took part in the RSPB’s Great British Birdwatch. We located ourselves near the allotment beds because we’ve heard lots of chirping there before. We only saw one little sparrow making the noise but we did see a lot of pigeons, one blackbird, 2 crows, 1 magpie, 4 black headed gulls and one red kite.

It’s not too late for you to take part at home too – you have until the 19th February!
