Nursery Latest News Spring 1 Week 5

This week we have be learning all about Chinese New Year. We started the week using the Chinese New Year basket of felt animals to tell the story of The Great Race. We voted for what animal we thought would win and which one would lose. We found out that the rat won the race and the first year of Chinese New Year would be the Year of the Rat.

Outside we made our own river, crossing over as the different animals. We explored our Chinese restaurant, learning about the different foods and made our own dragon to celebrate the Year of the Dragon. Becoming curious, we found that we are either the Year of the Rat, or the Year of the Pig.

Our favourite part of the week was creating our own dragon dance in our PE lesson. We watched some children perform their own dragon dance and talk about the different ways the dragon moved. We talked about what instruments we could hear in the music and how we could move to the beat. We each got to be the head of the dragon controlling how the rest of the dragon moved. We decided to move around high and low, slow and wiggly.

RSPB’s Great British Birdwatch

Today the Eco warriors took part in the RSPB’s Great British Birdwatch. We located ourselves near the allotment beds because we’ve heard lots of chirping there before. We only saw one little sparrow making the noise but we did see a lot of pigeons, one blackbird, 2 crows, 1 magpie, 4 black headed gulls and one red kite.

It’s not too late for you to take part at home too – you have until the 19th February!
