Nursery News – Summer 2 – Week 6

This week the children have enjoyed starting our transition topic “Tell me more”. They visited their new classroom and buddied up with the current reception children for explore learning time. The children enjoyed finding out where items in the classroom belong as well as exploring the Reception outside area. The children have also started to use their mark making skills to draw a picture of themselves for their new teachers. They thought carefully about the shape of their faces and the features you find on your face. Next week the children will deliver their drawings to their new teachers.

We also harvested our potatoes that we planted back in Spring. To our surprise the potatoes had actually grown and we ended up with a bucket full with lots of different shape and sizes. We sorted the potatoes into size order and spoke about what foods can be made from potatoes. The children had lots of fun helping peel and cut up the potatoes into wedges, chips and slices. Mrs Rathod took the potatoes to the school oven and returned with crispy cooked potatoes. The children really enjoyed eating the cooked potatoes and there was not one left!

This week the children enjoyed their first PE lesson. They changed independently and listened well to the safety rules of the hall. The children then took a trip into the ‘jungle’ where they moved their bodies like different animals. We ended the lesson with some mindfulness yoga.
