Reception Latest News- Spring 1 Week 1

Happy New Year!

This week we have been introduced to our new topic I see, I think, I wonder. We enjoyed talking about this topic and the things we would like to explore and learn more about. In story time we used the book ‘Here we are’ by Oliver Jeffers to support our learning as we learnt more about the Earth. We also used globes and atlases to identify key features of our planet.

We began the week reflecting on our holidays by sharing our Sparkling moments, it was lovely to hear about the variety of activities that the children had experienced during the break. This week we have been enjoying two additional activities to our timetable, first we were introduced to Adult directed groups which will take place daily in our colour teams and in the afternoon we have introduced group guided reading where we read with our friends and teachers.

Later in the week we welcomed a visitor to school who came to read a story about the Zones of regulation, the children were proud of their learning as they linked different parts of the story to the different zones. In Science we introduced magnets, the children enjoyed exploring the environment to identify objects with magnetic and non-magnetic properties which they collected for an interactive display.

RSPB’s Great British Birdwatch

Today the Eco warriors took part in the RSPB’s Great British Birdwatch. We located ourselves near the allotment beds because we’ve heard lots of chirping there before. We only saw one little sparrow making the noise but we did see a lot of pigeons, one blackbird, 2 crows, 1 magpie, 4 black headed gulls and one red kite.

It’s not too late for you to take part at home too – you have until the 19th February!
