Curriculum

“Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.”

Benjamin Franklin

Malvern Way is a learning community and as such, our approach to teaching is constantly adapting in the light of research and our own monitoring within school. We understand that while excellent teaching leads to learning, learning does not only happen as a result of teaching. Our curriculum meets the expectations of the National Curriculum and Early Years framework but in making our school unique, there is a strong focus on Learning Outside The Classroom, the arts and responding to the children’s ideas and interests to shape the curriculum.

Our Curriculum

As outdoor learners our children will take risks in their learning and acquire new skills that enrich their learning experiences beyond the classroom. Our children take their learning outside as well as learn about the outside. Our vast and varied outdoor environment provides them with an abundance of opportunities to learn from first-hand experience from our fire pit to pond dipping and looking after our chickens.

Explorers

As explorers our children are encouraged to celebrate and be curious about their role within a diverse world. Children will build their sense of identity and belonging through first hand experiences. They will respect and gain an insight into religious beliefs in the wider community, understanding their responsibility to others and the environment. Our curriculum inspires exploration of the local and immediate environment and how it has changed.

Creators

As creators our children are provided opportunities to grow their curiosity and imagination, becoming confident story tellers. Through an emphasis on performance children collaborate to compose, rehearse and edit before presenting a final piece. Regular professional performances inspires the children allowing them to appreciate and broaden their knowledge of different cultures.

Investigators

As investigators our children are inquisitive risk takers who are encourage to solve real and relevant problems in a variety of contexts. across our diverse environment. They follow their own lines of enquiry to develop new skills and become expert mathematical thinkers. Our curriculum enables children to use teach competently, confidently and safely
