Year 1 News Summer 1 Week 2

This week the children have thoroughly enjoyed getting into our focus story, Jack and the Beanstalk. We have worked together in our classes to story map our own version and used actions to help us perform it.

During discovery, we have been busy planting our own seed or bean. We made scientific predictions about what they will grow into and used adjectives to describe what they would look like. To link this to our Jack and the Beanstalk theme, we also drew pictures of where our imagination would take us to at the top of the beanstalk. We had some fantastic ideas from candy cane lands, monster zoos and giant unicorns!

In maths we have been using different combinations of coins to make amounts up to 10p and 20p. We had a Garden Centre role play set up where the children were able to practice this skill, buying seeds and plants.

This week the children enjoyed their first PE lesson. They changed independently and listened well to the safety rules of the hall. The children then took a trip into the ‘jungle’ where they moved their bodies like different animals. We ended the lesson with some mindfulness yoga.
