This week we have continued to explore our topic ‘As the Leaves Turn’ by inventing our own rags to riches stories. In our stories, the characters had to start poor and end up being rich following our focus text, Hansel and Gretel. We recapped conjunctions and were introduced to similes so that we could improve our writing. We did a shared write as a class and then worked independently to write our own story.
In maths, we have been revisiting tens and ones. For example, 46 is partitioned into 4 tens and 6 ones. We progressed our knowledge by applying this concept to money. For example, 46 could be made with four 10ps and six 1ps. Then we explored the idea that amounts of money can be made in many different ways.
In Science, we learnt about microhabitats. We discussed the difference between habitats and microhabitats and then walked around school trying to find them. We spotted logs, fallen leaves and rocks with some minibeasts within them.
In PE, we have been working on our footwork. So far we have practiced sidesteps and hopping. This week we were introduced to hopscotch which includes a hop and a two footed jump. We challenged ourselves by doing the hopscotch backwards, practicing our spatial awareness.
