We have had a great first week back at school! We enjoyed our Spooky Day on Monday and had fun reading a surprise book called How to Make Friends with a Ghost. We then wrote our own instructions on how to make friends with another spooky creature. On Tuesday we were very excited to make s’mores by toasting marshmallows over a fire outside. We talked about fire safety and how to make sure we have fun while staying safe.
In English, we have started learning about free verse poems and the features of them. We watched different poems being performed and noticed that it is important to use expression and actions to make it more interesting. Then we practised reading poems in pairs and performed them to our peers. We were collaborative while rehearsing so that we made sure everyone had a turn to speak. Later in the week, we then discussed the use of interesting vocabulary and collected our own words to use when we write firework themed poems next week.
In maths, we have explored number bonds to 10 and how they relate to number bonds to 100. Then developed this further by regrouping 100 into 3 parts using tens. For example, 30 + 50 + 20 = 100. Finally, we used our learning to find the nearest multiples of ten on a number line.
In computing, we have started to learn about photographs and what makes a good photo. We discussed different technology that can take photos and talked about when it is okay to take someone’s photo. In history, we learned about Guy Fawkes and why he is famous and had fun making puppets to act out the sequence of events.
